"There was never water in this house, with my old parents I had to bring water from afar so they could drink. Thanks to the water project, we have done all the work and now we have our own water. With Julia we are improving the house because one "A house without water has no life" (Ramiro).
At 65 years old and with a smile that lights up the heart, Julia narrates the experiences she spent with her family before having drinking water at home.
I had to return to Cascas to live. Although I felt sorry for my little house here, the conditions were not there, there was no water or electricity. Everything was very sad. Fortunately, this year everything changed, now we go to our little house more often because there is a place to wash our hands and we have the best bathroom. Before we came as a stopover every three months.
Julia stops a little and then continues, before she cooked outside on "pircas" and we slept at 6:00 pm, but with the agüita at home this is something else, we can sleep later and cook more comfortably; With Ramiro we have arranged the environments better, we can read a little, I can knit. Before we didn't have time because we had to bring water from far away. Water really changed our lives! There was a lady from the water project, who always came to visit us, her name was Rosa. She encouraged us to build the kitchenette, encouraged us with the painting and also taught us how to have our bathroom corner. Our life is different now, we live in a better environment. Without water we would not have been interested in changing.
My husband and I worked to put in the plumbing and it was worth the effort. I have my laundry room to wash. Before, I brought water from a well that is 20 minutes from here, but the saddest thing was that the animals also drank that water; That's why I contracted hepatic fluke and was treated for that disease for about a year.
With this collection and connection that they have made in the houses it is something else, we have chlorinated water and it is nice. Now we come calmly and no longer thinking about how the well from which the water was drawn will be (...). Having water there is everything, you have something to bathe with, wash clothes, clean, cook; We also have a new bathroom and even our meter.
Before we used a latrine, but we are older and it is very difficult because of the discomfort when sitting and then standing, with this new bathroom we have more security and comfort. We have our bathroom that cost us our work and money, but it turned out very nice.
Don Ramiro adds: "My wife is happy and my oldest granddaughter is also happy because she saw the then and now of our house. She recently came to visit us and when she arrived here she was surprised, she says that now she really wants to come live here" . Ramiro concludes by saying that the countryside is the most peaceful, healthy and stress-free place, and if it has drinking water it is much better.
